The General Osteopathic Council. Osteopathy was the first complementary health care profession to be given statutory regulation. The Osteopaths Act (1993) etablished the General Osteopathic Council which protects the public by ensuring that osteopaths adhere to a strict code of conduct and carry professional indemnity cover.

The regulators are set up to protect the public so that whenever you see a health or social care professional, you can be sure they meet the required standards. The regulators are committed to public and patient involvement in developing our regulatory processes. (for more details see The Council for Healthcare Regulatory Excellence (CHRE).)

Osteopathic training comprises of a four or five year degree programme with extensive clinical training. The Council maintains a Statutory Register of all osteopaths entitled to practise Osteopathy.
